Relocate School Of Deaf And Dumb- Ebonyi State Coordinator Pleads
The Ebonyi State Charter Of The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged the state government to immediately relocate the School for the Deaf and Dumb, situated inside the permanent orientation camp to somewhere else.
Mrs Regina Ilueben, the State Coordinator, made the call on Monday at the closing ceremony of the orientation for 2016 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corpers deployed to Ebonyi.
According to her, it is one of the challenges militating against the smooth procession of orientation activities in the camp.
“We are imploring the state government to immediately relocate the school because the students engage in activities not required of them.
“They turn their environment into a small market and being deaf and dump, communication is always difficult, making them feel oppressed or maligned most times.”
The coordinator also noted that posting of corps members to Ishielu Local Government Area would soon commence.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that posting of corps members to Ishielu was suspended when the area witnessed a fratricidal war between 2008 and 2011.
“The NYSC national directorate is aware of this development and we will commence posting of corps members to the area immediately the state government directs us to do so.
“Posting of corps members is done in line with the NYSC management’s posting policy which covers four major areas of education, health, agriculture and rural infrastructure,” she said.
She also urged all stakeholders and corps employers, especially federal ministries, departments and agencies in Ebonyi not to reject corps members posted to their institutions.
“They should religiously adhere to the directive of the Federal Government circular with Ref. No: SGF 15/T/745 of October 2016, which stipulates that corps members posted to Federal Government establishments should not be rejected,” she said.
Gov. David Umahi commended the state coordinator, camp officials and all corps members for the success of the three-week Orientation Course.
Represented by Mr Charles Akpuenika, the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Umahi cautioned the corps members against unnecessary and unauthorised journeys, which had in the past resulted in unpleasant consequences.
“Your lives are very precious to government and your families considering the huge capital outlay invested in you since your childhood.
“I direct all state ministries, departments and agencies to accept the services of corps members posted to them and stop rejecting their services on flimsy excuses,” he said.
