NYSC Not Under Threat – Minister
Minister of Youth Development, Inuwa Abdulkadir, has declared that the National Youth Service Corps Scheme is not under any threat from security challenges facing the nation, but rather it provides the justification for its continued existence.
Inuwa Abdulkadir disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja at the weekend. He argued that the scheme has come out stronger than ever after the death of some corps members who were killed in certain parts of the country during the post-election violence in 2011.
The minister observed that not even Boko Haram posed any serious challenge to the sustenance of the scheme, noting that “from the operations of the group, their targets cut across religious and ethnic divides. No corps member was the direct target of the group.”
He observed further that the insecurity problem might have had some effect on individual corps members, he was glad to note that “with the present effort of the federal government, there should be no cause for anxiety or alarm anymore.”
