NYSC member donates N1m worth of drugs, nets to IDPs
A member of the Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Dr Iniabasi Bassey, on Thursday presented drugs and mosquito nets valued at N1 million to internally-displaced persons camp in Yenagoa.
The items were part of Bassay’s community development project. Bassey, who is deployed to the joint military task force in the state, said the gesture was mainly to assist the displaced people.
“I had earlier visited the camp to see what can be done to assist the women and children suffering in the camp. “I was moved with the deplorable situation at the camp and took it upon herself as part of my primary assignment to put a smile on their faces,’’ she said.
She urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, saying, however, that they should not fail to seek regular medical attention. Chief Noel Meshack, the Chairman of the displaced persons in Bayelsa, thanked the corps member for her kind gesture, promising that the items would be properly managed.
He also urged the public and donor agencies to come to their aid to compliment the efforts of the government. The occasion was attended by officials of the state government and the NYSC.
