Minister Complains About Budgetary Allocation For NYSC.

Yesterday, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Solomon Dalong spoke about the poor budgetary allocation to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and National Youth Centres.
He revealed this while defending the ministry’s budget before the Senate Committee on Youth and Sport in Abuja.
While stating that the total allocation to the ministry and its four parastatals was N75.8 billion, Dalong noted that the completion of 52 National Youth Centres and the NYSC was not appropriated sufficient funds in 2016.
“Funds were not appropriated for the expenditure heads in the 2016 budget. Overhead for the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre had zero budget and the youth empowerment which is a critical component of the ministry’s core mandate also had zero budget.”
He warned that if the issue was not addressed in the 2017 budget proposal, it would result in abandoning many federal government projects across the country and may also result in litigation.
The minister revealed that the ministry’s Internally Generated Revenue was N102 million and was paid directly into the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
The minister, however, added that the 2017 appropriation Bill for the ministry was increased to N83 billion.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Committee Sen. Obinna Ogba called on the minister to carry the committee along when holding NFF election.
“You have set up a committee without reference to the Senate Committee. You must carry the committee along,” he instructed.
