Desist From Unauthorized Traveling – NYSC DG Warn Corp Members

Corps members deployed to Edo State have been warned to desist from unauthorized traveling during their service year in the State.

The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Suleman Kazaure, gave the warning Monday at the Scheme’s Temporary Orientation Camp, Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the State.

He disclosed that the Scheme has lost a great number of its members to road accidents as a result of unauthorized traveling embarked upon by Corps members.

Kazaure, who was represented by the Acting Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mrs. Josephine Okonghae, on an inspection of the facilities, urged corps members to accept their postings to their primary places​ of assignments in good fate, in order to settle down and contribute their quota to the development of the respective communities.

He said they should shun unauthorized traveling to avoid road accidents in order to preserve them for their parents, who had laboured to train them.

He advised that should there be any need to travel out of their primary places of assignments, they should take permission from the authorities concerned.

“I am talking about journey. I want to appeal to you, after going home to bring your things and settling down, please, try as much as possible to remain in your locations. We lost many Corps members as a result of accidents. There is no need for you to undertake unnecessary journey. Please, try as much as possible to limit your journey.

“Also, obtain proper permission before you embark on your journey because there are sanctions for not doing so,” he said.
The NYSC Director-General who commended the Corps members for their prompt adjustment to camp life, urged them to take advantage of the skill-acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme made available at the camp seriously so that they could be self-sufficient, rather than waiting to get the white collar jobs that are not there.

He also warned them against posting unverifiable information on the social media which could lead to undue tension in the society, warning that any one caught in the act would face severer sanctions from the Scheme.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr. Abdullahi Yusuf Baba, while presenting the 1,920 members of the 2017 batch “A” stream II to the D-G, said the Scheme has enjoyed a cordial relationship with the Governor of the State.

He disclosed that the Governor has given a marching order for the completion of the building of the NYSC permanent camp at Okada and the renovation of the NYSC Zonal Office at Oredo Local Government Area of the State.

Abdullahi also noted that efforts were being made to make camp life meaningful to the Corps members during the three-week orientation exercise.

One of the Corps members, Mrs. Rafiat Atanda, a graduate of English from Lagos State University, who spoke for others, said the visit of the D-G to the camp has shown that he loves and cares for them.

She promised to contribute her quota to the development of her host community and to be more patriotic to serve Nigeria, her fatherland.
