Corpers To Benefit From NHIS Scheme.
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has confirmed that it would include National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in its scheme, so they can access health care easily.
This was stated by NYSC Director of Press, Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, in a statement released on yesterday, Friday.
She said the Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf, disclosed this when he visited Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure, Director General of the NYSC scheme.
According to the statement, the decision was in compliance with a Presidential directive to NHIS authorities.
NHIS staff will be expected to visit orientation camps, to capture biometric data of corps members.
“As the corps members get posted to places of primary assignment, the NHIS would assign each of them to a hospital where they will be getting treatment in the event of illness.
“We have made a proposal to the government to enable it make direct payment to hospitals that will render healthcare services to corps members instead of doing so through Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs).
“This will avoid hitches often occasioned by the failure of some HMOs to make appropriate payments to hospitals,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.
A very good and welcome development. I pray the programme see the light of the day soonest, as our Corps members suffer serious problems when they fall sick.
I av NHIS card as Corper,I was ask to carry out some test yet they are collecting money from me even to see doctor I paid for consultation fee at Federal medical centre. Why is it like that?
