50 Prison Inmates Secured Release By NYSC Members In Katsina
KATSINA—As part of it Community Development Service, CDS, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members on the Legal Aid Scheme and serving in Katsina State have secured release of 50 prison inmates in the state.
President of the NYSC Legal Aid Scheme, Peter Terve Gbende who disclosed this, yesterday, said it secured the release of the inmates between 2016 and 2017.
Gbende also said the inmates release was secured through bail applications without fines paid.
He said the inmates were in the prison custody mostly for drug related offences while others were accused of rape and homicide offences.
To this end, Gbende said it didn’t stop at just securing the release of inmates but took it sensitization campaign against drug abuse to schools particularly Government Day Senior Secondary School, Kofar Yandaka, Katsina.
According to him, “the NYSC Legal Aid Scheme is a CDS group targeted to securing release of indigents inmates. We travelled down to Funtua and Kaura prisons to visit and see the conditions of inmates and secure their release while it is a routine for it to visit the Katsina prisons.”
